San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located just south of the city center on the west side of the San Francisco Bay. SFO is accessible from Highway 101 as well as I-280. All San Francisco public transit services provide service to the airport.
From SFO to Kona International Airport (KOA), typical flight times are 5 to 8 hours, depending on the stops. KOA is located off HI-19, also known as Queen Kaahumanu Highway, 7 miles from Kona. Passengers arriving at KOA can find public transit and car rental services outside the terminal.
On the Big Island, visitors love coffee tasting in the Kona District, where coffee is grown on the spot. There are also farmers markets to get a glimpse of local culture and shopping, as well as local foods.
Kona is known for its almost perfect weather, as well as being home to Volcanoes National Park. Adventurers can try the Manta-Ray Night Dive expedition or horseback riding around ranches in the Waimea area. Kamakahonu Beach is good for snorkeling, surfing and sun, and is in the center of Kona where most tourists stay on their trip.
November through March is the best time to visit Kona, as the weather gets humid and hot in the summer months with temperatures topping out as high as 85 degrees compared to the 70s in the wintertime.
