Leaving Los Angeles for Lima, Peru takes you to a totally different culture ready for your exploration. The Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) is actually in Callao, which is a few miles west of Lima.
Once you get your rental car and arrive in the metropolis of Lima, you can tour the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Perú and the Museum of Gold to explore the area's natural history, settlement and civilizations.
From there, head into the city's historic center and check out the Monastery of San Francisco, or the Cathedral of Lima, two of the most historic places to visit in the city.
Drive along the Pan-American Highway to reach the coastal resorts and beaches of Punta Hermosa and Santa María del Mar. If you'd like to explore some attractions that are off the beaten path, you can visit Chosica, which has mild weather all year round.
The flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to LIM usually takes about eight and a half hours. You'll be traversing through several time zones, so you may want to head over to the Castillo de Real Felipe, to unwind by watching the ships and birds around the harbor. From there, you can get into your rental car and drive the few short miles into Lima.
