Las Vegas Mccarran International (LAS) is the main commercial airport serving the Las Vegas area and is five miles south of the city. It can be reached by I-15 and I-215. Typical flight times are seven to eight hours to Kahului (OGG), and upon your arrival, you will probably use the Hana Highway or the Haleakala Highway to reach your hotel destination.

Attractions and Tips

Haleakala National Park is situated on the slopes of the extinct volcano Haleakala, whose dormant crater into which visitors can peek. From the summit, the entire island of Maui can be observed, with stunning views all the way to the ocean. The Iao Valley State Monument is a popular place for tourist excursions because of its lush vegetation and spectacular scenery, along with the Iao Needle, a rock formation that rises up more than 2,200 feet from the valley floor. The Maui Ocean Center is a group of well-organized aquariums that display the diverse marine life of the Hawaiian Islands, including coral, turtles and many different fish. Kaanapali Beach is four miles long and is the finest beach area on the island, very popular with visitors.

Because of its topography, Maui is subject to several micro-climatic influences, but in general, rainfall is light and sporadic, with few heavy rains. Temperatures on Maui are uniform throughout the year, staying between 75 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit on most days of the year.
