Originally founded in 1995 as the New York Metro Stars, the team was sold to Red Bull in 2005 as the energy drink company sought to expand its reach into the world of sports. The Red Bulls did not win an away game at the Revolution's home venue for 12 years until 2014, when the Red Bulls clinched a 2-0 win. This further intensified this heated rivalry.
