Finding a New Ferocity

Mississippi State founded its women's basketball program in the 1970s, but the team remained under the national radar for some time. The Bulldogs made their debut in the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and have been a consistent competitor since. The Bulldogs are a team made of legend, including the epic game against the UConn Huskies in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Huskies were favored to win and continue on their 111-game winning streak, but a final shot by the diminutive Morgan Williams gave the Bulldogs an overtime win and sent them on the National Championship game. There they fell to South Carolina, but Mississippi State carried that enthusiasm over to 2018. They dominated in their conference, claiming the regular season championship title. Again they climbed to the NCAA Championship game, this time suffering a heart-breaking defeat by Notre Dame.
