History

Originally, the band members were part of a band called Scum. When that band broke up in 1991, many of the members reformed as Amon Amarth. The band is composed of lead guitarist Olavi Mikkonen, vocalist Johan Hegg, bassist Ted Lundström, rhythm guitarist Johan Söderberg, and drummer Jocke Wallgren. Together they have released ten studio albums, one compilation album, an EP, and a video album. In 1998, Amon Amarth released their first full length album, which received critical praise and helped them develop a fan base. Their breakthrough album was the 2008 album, Twilight of the Thunder God. It debuted at number ten on the Swedish album charts and number 50 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. In 2013, they released the album, Deceiver of the Gods, which hit No. 19 on the charts in the U.S.
