Memorable Bucks-Knicks games

The Knicks come back from the dead- On November 18, 1972, the Milwaukee Bucks stepped out to take on the New York Knicks at the famous Madison Square Garden. The Bucks had the game wrapped up in the fourth quarter as they led 86-68. Or so it looked. The Knicks were a formidable unit and they fought back. They trounced the Bucks 29-16 in the final quarter and completed what is without a doubt one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history.

The Bucks win it right at the end- This is a more recent encounter but one that needs to be revisited. On January 4, 2017, the Knicks welcomed the Bucks to the Madison Square Garden. The Bucks were down 87-73 as they entered the fourth quarter. They hit their stride immediately and went 14-2 at the start of the quarter. The Bucks were still trailing in the end when Giannis Antetokounmpo nailed a fade away jumper from 15 feet just as the buzzer sounded. The Bucks won the game 105-104.

The Bucks-Knicks Head to Head

The Bucks-Knicks Legends

The Milwaukee Bucks have one NBA Championship to their name and leading the charge for them during that era were stalwarts like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA Finals MVP that year (1971) and also won the NBA MVP gong. He also made it to three NBA All-Star teams as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks have retired his number 33.

Oscar Robertson won the NBA title with the Bucks in 1971 as well. He earned three NBA All-Star selections as a Buck and his number 1 has also been retired by the franchise. After Robertson and Jabbar came Sidney Moncrief who remained with the Bucks 1979-1990. As a part of the Bucks, he was picked for five All-Star teams and has had his number 4 retired by the Bucks too.

Patrick Ewing is not only one of the greatest basketball players to ever step foot on a basketball court but he is also the greatest New York Knicks player in history. He is a former 11 time All-Star and his number 33 has now been retired by the Knicks. He has also been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame twice – once for his achievements as a New York Knicks player and second as part of the 1992 Olympic team.

Walt Frazier lifted two NBA Championships with the Knicks and also earned seven NBA All-Star picks. Frazier made it to four NBA-All Star first teams, had his number 10 retired by the Knicks and is also a proud member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Willis Reed was also a member of the NBA title winning Knicks side. He was also the NBA Finals MVP on both occasions. Reed was a force of nature. The center/power forward from Bernice, Louisiana, won seven NBA All-Star selections and is now a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Needless to say, his number 19 was also retired by the New York Knicks.
