However, the Bills made sure, or rather, wide receiver Jerry Butler made sure the Bills were the perfect hosts to the Jets. Butler gave one of the most remarkable performances of his career that day. Along with quarterback Joe Ferguson, Butler collaborated on ten occasions for 255 yards and four touchdowns. The Bills won the game 46-31 and Jerry Butler set the franchise record for the most receiving yards in a single game.

This record stood till 2006 until Lee Evans surpassed it with 265 receiving yards against the Houston Texans.

Unruly Fans- On October 17, 1988, the New York Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills 37-14. The fans in the Giants Stadium didn’t take the result well and started brawling. In addition, the fans also threw beer and started fires. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Commission determined alcohol was the reason behind the chaos. The commission banned sale of alcohol at night games and limited tailgating as well.
