I travel cheaply a lot... but this one takes the cake. I arrived, taking a wrong turn, and accidentally wound up in the Tenderloin. As a solo female traveler with an early AM work time, I knew it wouldn't work for me. I tried to explain to the front desk my concerns and requested to cancel my stay. At this point, the hotel did not have my credit card, but immediately refused to cancel my reservation and said I would have to pay for the full time regardless. The staff also made dismissive comments about my safety concerns. I repeated that I was not getting what had been advertised, and was made to wait for over half an hour on the couch while the staff talked to a manager. The team then blamed Hotels.com, saying it was their fault I couldn't modify my reservation and that it was out of the hostel's hands. Three calls to Hotels.com later, the hostel agreed to release my reservation after three nights. I agreed and decided to wait it out. Things got worse in the room. Something red was smeared all over the bathroom floor. I hope it was paint? The shower had mold, and there was no ventilation in the room whatsoever. It was so noisy I slept with ear plugs AND headphones. Someone dropped a food on the stairs my first night there, and it was still there when I checked out, which is all that needs to be said about housekeeping. If you're looking for cheap, try Travelodge. This place must be paying for good reviews.
The bathroom was literally falling apart... this toilet paper holder was clinging by a screw.
Red smears all over the floor... dare I ask?

This hostel is a little pricy because of the location but it’s really nice and comfortable. Most of the travelers there are very young but it was a good experience.

I would not go back unless I had to. The male dorm was disorderly and unkept. The fridges were something I did not want to put my food in. I think it's become a sort of challenge for the hostel to manage the place. I wish them well. I'm glad they exist. The staff is doing what they can. The cleaning ladies are heroes. Perhaps some more regulation of common areas and some dorm room room enforcement would help it out. It has a cool court yard for some fresh air.

The hotel itself was fine, but I was disappointed with the staff. They were not welcoming or helpful, and at times seemed uninterested in assisting guests. A little more professionalism and friendliness would have made the stay much better.

I was pleasantly surprised, as I had low expectations for a hostel. But the room and bathroom was spacious and clean. The bathroom looked newly renovated. Bed was super comfy. Had everything you needed. Shared kitchen was untidy at times, but the onus is on the guests to clean after themselves. Price was reasonable given the location.

I liked for the price what is being offered is great, bed mattress sheets were clean and very comfortable. Washrooms was well stocked and clean. Overall highly recommend if you are looking for a budget accommodation at a centrally located downtown area.
