Very Disappointing Stay We stayed at Riu Palace Mexico, Playa del Carmen, expecting a 5-star all-inclusive experience, but it was extremely disappointing. Our first room was dirty and poorly maintained — broken bathroom, heavy dust everywhere, and very old, worn furniture. We immediately requested a room change. Even after we paid extra for an upgraded room, we were told we still had to wait 24 hours before being moved. When we were finally placed in the upgraded room the next day, the situation became even worse. That evening, after returning from dinner and turning on the lights, around 20 cockroaches ran across the room. It was absolutely disgusting. I am attaching photos and videos as proof. I tried calling the service desk multiple times that night, but no one answered. The next morning, management again told us to wait another 24 hours, which we refused. After several hours, we were moved to a different room. By then, three of our six vacation days were lost. The front desk staff and management were unhelpful and dismissive. When we asked for compensation, they offered a free massage, which did not address the seriousness of the issue. RIU corporate referred us to Expedia, since we booked through them, and we are still waiting for a response. The food was mediocre and mostly tasteless, including the Christmas Eve dinner. The beach was nice, but there was no beach service, towels were old and limited to one per person.

We enjoyed our stay in Riu and definitely want to go back again. There is so many lounger by the beach and pools that you won’t get up early to reserve a spot.

We had a great time at Riu Palace! The staff are so welcoming. They work so hard to make your stay great! The grounds are well kept. The room was clean and beds comfortable. The food is amazing! The buffet has a great variety each day and the food gets replenished often. My kids loved the chocolate fountain. Each day there’s a different type of chocolate in the fountain. I loved the seafood variety. We ate at the steakhouse restaurant onsite and had a delicious lobster. We ate at the Japanese restaurant and liked the food. It’s a first come, first served which worked well. We never had to wait. There were some fun times at the pool such as the bingo games, foam party and the gymnastics show. Javi is a great server by the pool side. He remembered our names and what we like to drink. We loved the Riu white party over at Riu Tequila across the road. Early in the evening there’s face painting and balloons. It cost $10 US taxi to get from the playa del Carmen ferry to the Riu resort. I suggest dealing in pesos. There is a laundry service available. You have to pay by the item so it can really add up. So we didn’t use it. There’s a lot of laundry to do with a family. Too bad there wasn’t a self serve laundry room or a pay by the bag service. The beach was great. There’s lots of people swimming in front of the resort. The ocean is warm and has clear turquoise water. The sand is white and fluffy. I didn’t see many shells or fish. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Overall RIU staff provided excellent services. We stayed at the palace and felt that we should have the option of having dinner at other RIU locations, in the area. Additionally, natural cleaning product should be used in hotel lobby as there was a strong chemical smell.

It was very painful to see how they cooked an expensive steak as fillets mignons or ribeye In my opinion you should put the best chefs at these types of cooking stations A couple of minutes more and you destroy the meat cut
