Kapaa has many places for visitors to stay, including the downtown Kapaa strip and the Garden Island of Kauai. It is located on the east side of Wailua and features the Kinopopo Shopping village, which is filled with eateries and a variety of shops selling everything from classic Aloha shirts to fine art and jewelry. You can find homemade Hawaiin keepsakes at the Wailua shopping plaza, located nearby as is the Coconut Marketplace.
The closest airport to Kapaa is the Lihue Airport (LIH), located approximately 8 miles from the center of Kapaa. Once in Kapaa, you can expect to travel by car, bus, shuttle or taxi. If you're staying downtown or along the beach, many destinations will be within walking distance.
Kapaa is known for its pleasant climate. It was once an agricultural center for sugar cane fields and had the largest pineapple fields in Kauai. The famous Nounou Mountain overlooks the town. The Old Town Kappa Art Walk takes place annually, during which the streets are lined with art vendors and some of the best musicians and bands perform. Culinary offerings include everything from Asian food at the Mermaids Cafe to local Hawaiin food at Oasis on the Beach.
