Champaign, Illinois, has rapidly transformed from a small college town to a major destination over the past decade. The University of Illinois is one of the biggest colleges in the United States, which means you can always find something fun to do in Champaign-Urbana. Seeing a football game with over 60,000 other fans at Memorial Stadium is a sports fan's dream. In addition to sporting events, the university regularly hosts concerts, plays and dance performances. If you are looking for something to do away from campus, head downtown and check out the Orpheum Children's Science Museum, Virginia Theater and Champaign Country Historical Museum.
Willard Airport (CMI) operates in Champaign, but it only offers flights to and from Chicago and Dallas. While you may not be able to get a direct flight, you should still have no problem flying into Champaign. Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses both stop at the downtown transportation center, Illinois Terminal. The Champaign-Urbana MTD operates public buses that run throughout the city.
The area is designated a Tree City USA, and many visitors come to the area in the fall when leaves change color. Average October high temperatures range in the low 60s. Movie buffs may want to visit Champaign in April to experience Ebertfest, the late Roger Ebert's annual film festival.
