With 14 Top 10 radio hits, the Goo Goo Dolls are certainly one of the greatest bands of their generation, and one of the most accomplished acts of all time. Those 14 hits are more than any artist in the Hot AC format and their last 5 albums have all made it into the Top 30 on the Billboard Top 200.
1998 saw the release of their triple platinum album Dizzy Up the Girl and it couldn’t have been filled with more hits. Iris, the biggest hit out of four from the album, was on the Billboard charts for almost a full year and, for an incredible 17 consecutive weeks, held the #1 spot.
The group’s leader, John Rzeznik, has been given The Songwriters Hall Of Fame Hal David Starlight Award because of all the hits that the group has had over the years, and the Goo Goo Dolls also have the distinction of being the only artist with 3 songs on the Top 100 Songs from 1992 – 2012 on Billboard. That includes, at the #1 spot, Iris.
The Goo Goo Dolls recently announced that they will be touring North America this summer with Daughtry as their co-headliner and also with their special guests the Plain White T’s. Rzeznik, when asked about the upcoming tour, said that ”We are excited to finally be teaming up with Daughtry,” He added that ”Not only are we big fans of Chris, but we think this is going to be a huge party for the fans of both our bands. The combination of the two will make for an awesome summer night of great American rock music.”
The respect and admiration from Chris Daughtry, the vocalist for Daughtry, was mutual. ”We are huge fans of the Goo Goo Dolls and have wanted to tour with them for a long time now. Everyone will see more than two great bands on stage. They’re going to get an incredible show every night and have a summer to remember.”
Actually, since releasing their latest album Magnetic last year, the Goo goo Dolls have been on the road almost nonstop to back up the album. It wasn’t really necessary as Magnetic not only sold nearly 30,000 copies during its first week of release but is also hanging at number eight on the Billboard Top 200. It also has the distinction of being #28 on the list of Top 50 Rock Albums of 2013 on TheRockRevival.com.
