About Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Although the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals met each other for the first time in 1982, it was really their confrontations in 2011 that kicked off this relatively recent rivalry. Interestingly enough, Milwaukee and St. Louis have always been rivals on the commercial front. That is because Milwaukee is where Miller Brewing is located while St. Louis is the home of the famous Anheuser Busch.

Brewers Cardinals Unforgettable Moments

Suds Series - Game 7 - The 1982 World Series pitted the Brewers against the Cardinals for the first time ever and because of the commercial rivalry between the two cities, the series was dubbed, the Suds Series. The World Series itself that year lived up to the hype and went all the way to the seventh game. On October 20, 1982, at the Busch Stadium, the Brewers and the Cardinals faced off for the ultimate prize. The Cardinals were trailing 3-1 at the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the innings, they had managed to load bases when Keith Hernandez’s single tied the game. George Hendrick then stepped up to give the Cardinals the lead. They hit two more runs in the eighth to clinch the World Series title for the ninth time in their history.

2011 NLCS - The Milwaukee Brewers faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Pennant in 2011. This was also their first postseason meeting since the 1982 World Series. The Brewers won the first game on October 9 at the Miller Park. The Cardinals responded by clinching the next two, the first one at Miller Park and the second at the Busch Stadium. The Brewers then tied the series 2-2 by winning Game 4 on October 13 at the Busch Stadium. The St. Louis Cardinals won Game 5 at the Busch Stadium and then clinched the series and along with it the NL Pennant by winning Game 6 at the Miller Park.
