Take advantage of Newark's public transit network and take the AirTrain to Newark International Airport (EWR). This service links to both New Jersey Transit and Amtrak. Watch a few in-flight movies, as flight duration is typically just over eight hours. When you land at Barcelona El Prat De Llobregat (BCN), pick up your bags and take the A1 or A2 bus to head into Barcelona proper.
Start your exploration of Barcelona by viewing the work of one of the city's most famous former residents: Pablo Picasso. Visit the Picasso Museum to see an impressive collection of his masterworks. Continue your visit with a stroll through Barri Gotic. This neighborhood is the oldest part of Barcelona and is home to one of the city's best pieces of architecture, the cathedral, La Seu. As the sun sets, head up to Montjuic Castle. This castle dates back to the mid-17th century and offers great views of the city.
If you don't like the hustle and bustle of staying in a particularly touristy area, select a hotel in Poble Sec. If you fancy yourself a foodie, choose accommodations in Barceloneta. Barcelona is a beautiful destination year-round. If you prefer warmer weather, visit during the spring and summer, April to September. If you are looking to beat the winter chill, visiting October to March is a wise choice.
