Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) serves those traveling for business or leisure, to both Maryland and Washington, D.C. BWI has a variety of rental car options, which is recommended for getting around. It’s the most reliable way to see nearby places of interest on your own time.
The visually stunning Inner Harbor is just ten miles from the airport. It is a hub of activity dominated by shopping, dining and nightclubs like Havana Club. Attractions include the National Aquarium, Baltimore Maritime Museum and breathtaking views of the skyline. About an hour from BWI is Washington, D.C., where visitors flock to see the White House, home to all U.S. Presidents. Also worth seeing are the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the Smithsonian Institutions and Washington Zoo.
BWI has a new rental car location about ten minutes from the airport. There is free shuttle service to and from the location. Shuttles run approximately every ten minutes.
Flight time between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and BWI is approximately five hours, and you lose three hours with the time difference. While you adjust to the new time zone, you can take a stroll on the trail surrounding BWI and admire the beautiful scenery. You can watch planes taking off and landing form the Thomas A. Dixon Jr. Aircraft Observation Area. From BWI you can continue north on flights to New York, Boston or Toronto.
