Located less than five miles from the downtown area, Salt Lake City International (SLC) Airport can be accessed using the Bangerter Highway. To skip the drive, you can take the bus or the TRAX light rail. Flight times are usually three-and-a-half hours to Washington Ronald Reagan National (DCA) Airport. Take the Washington Metrorail to get you into the city as well as some of the attractions. Shuttles, Greyhound buses and taxis are also available.
There is real historical significance to the United States housed within the confines of D.C. Many visitors choose to sign up for a tour that will take them to some of the various monuments in the area. If you are going alone, start on the National Mall. The Capitol is located on one side and the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool is on the other. Nearby you will also see the World War II Memorial as well as the Washington Monument. The National Gallery of Art is another popular attraction in the area with a collection that takes up two buildings.
Summertime is hot and humid with thunderstorms expected in July; however, this does not prevent a large mass of visitors from coming to the area over their summer breaks. In the winter, things change drastically and you can expect chilly conditions complete with snow. Spring and fall tend to be the most comfortable seasons.
