Portland International (PDX) can be reached from downtown Portland via I-84 east to I-205 north. Flights usually last for about 90 minutes nonstop or between four and six hours, depending on connectors. After landing at Reno/Tahoe International (RNO), it's just a short drive north via I-580 to downtown Reno or south to Carson City.
Reno is known for its casinos, which include the Eldorado, the Grand Sierra Resort, Circus Circus, Atlantis, Sands Regency, Siena, Peppermill, Club Cal, Silver Legacy and more. Other attractions include the Aces Ballpark, the National Automobile Museum, the Wilbur D. May Center, Sierra Safari Zoo, National Bowling Stadium, Artown, the Reno Events Center, the Lawlor Events Center, Idlewild Park, Mackay Stadium and the St Thomas Aquinas Cathedral. Nevada's capital, Carson City, is home to numerous nature sites, including Snow Valley Peak, Washoe Lake State Park. You can also visit the Nevada State Capitol, the Nevada State Railroad Museum and the Bowers Mansion.
Reno exhibits a steppe climate in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Winters are mild and summers are very hot, reaching averages of around 90. Precipitation is light all year round, and the most comfortable times to visit are in late spring and mid-to-late fall. Exercise caution during the summer and drink plenty of fluids.
