The French Quarter draws the most visitors, as it is considered the heart of the city. While here, check out The Cabildo, built in 1799 and used as the seat of the Spanish government. If you are looking for more of a rowdy nightlife, be sure to visit Bourbon Street in the evening, filled with bars, performers and even fortunetellers. It might seem strange, but touring some of the local cemeteries tends to show off some of the interesting architecture in the form of memorials and graves.

In the summertime, the heat is considerable when paired with the humidity; this is also the time of year when hurricanes are a threat to the area.
