A flight from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), will land you in the suburbs of Detroit and within driving distance of downtown Detroit and Ann Arbor. If you have time for a trip of approximately eight hours, you may consider heading to the shore to see Lake Erie.
In Detroit, you can find restaurants, hotels and many entertainment venues in one place if you visit the Renaissance Center downtown. Take the MacArthur Bridge to Belle Isle State Park if you prefer to enjoy the outdoors.
There's a lot to see and do in Ann Arbor as well; from the Hands-On Museum, to the Delhi Metropark. You can also tour the University of Michigan campus, or catch a game at Michigan Stadium.
DTW is located near I-94 and I-275. Take I-94 East if you are headed to Detroit, or the I-94 West will take you to Ann Arbor. If you want to make the trip to the Great Lakes, I-275 South will take you to I-75 for access to Lake Erie towns like Gibraltar and Monroe.
A direct flight from IAH to DTW will take approximately three hours. Once you claim your baggage, follow the ground transportation signs to find the shuttles offering free rides to all car rental agencies on site.
