Falling Just Short

Founded in 1993, the Rockies are currently one of baseball's youngest franchises. Granted to the city of Denver in 1991 as part of the leagues expansion, they entered alongside the other expansion team the Miami Marlins. For their first two seasons of play they shared the Mile-High Stadium with the Denver Broncos of the NFL. In 1995 their ballpark Coors Field was completed, and they were able to play their first season in it. Despite having offensive stars like Larry Walker, Matt Holliday, Dante Bichette and Todd Helton, the Rockies have only been able to qualify for the post season a total of five times. The team has never won a division title as they have only ever been in a wildcard position, and they are only one of two major league teams that have not won their division. The Rockies won their first-ever National League pennant in 2007, but the ultimately fell in the World Series, losing to the Boston Red Sox.

Coors Canaveral

With Coors Field being in the center of the Rocky Mountains, it is the highest ballpark in the league. Due to the high elevation, the ball can travel further in the air resulting in record setting home runs. To compensate for the unusual amount of home runs, the league put the outfield fences further away from Homeplate. When they did this the size of the outfield was naturally increased, resulting in there being more doubles and triples in this ballpark as well. Early in the franchise’s existence the field earned the nickname “Coors Canaveral” after Cape Canaveral, the location where NASA launces their space craft. The altitude of the ballpark also allows for fewer strike outs as well as fewer pitch options for pitchers as a curve ball is almost ineffective in this climate. Besides being the most hitter friendly ballpark in the league, the ballpark also offers a microbrewery and restaurant. Fans can get craft beer and food such as the Rockie dog within the Blue Moon Brewery at The Sandlot located right inside of the ballpark.

It's a new era of Rockies baseball, and fans are eager to buy cheap Rockies tickets and head out to Coors Field to watch the Rockies! Don't miss out on any of the action! Check out the Colorado Rockies 2024 schedule here at CheapTickets.
