About Vance Joy

On Dec. 1, 1987 James Keogh was born in Melbourne, Australia. James would later come to be known as Vance Joy to audiences everywhere. Joy pursued his interest in music by participating in open-mic nights in Melbourne while trying to earn his law degree. He grew in popularity quickly, and in his first two years of performing fans eagerly sought out cheap Vance Joy tickets to say they knew him before he got big. When he started to see success from his amateur singing career, he put law on hold and picked up the alias Vance Joy. The name originated from a character in Peter Carey's book, "Bliss" because people often mispronounced Keogh. Plus, he liked that the character was a storyteller like himself.

Joy's first story, so to speak, was his hit single "Riptide," which launched him into tours and concerts around the world. In fact, quite a bit of Joy's success has come from his songwriting. In 2014 "Riptide" won the 2014 International Songwriting Competition, as it received top marks across the board for its meaningful lyrics. The score this song received at the competition was an accomplishment in itself as it was the first time anyone has achieved such a high mark in the award's 14-year history. In Australia, "Riptide" went triple platinum and earned him the award Best Male Artist at the 2015 Australian Record Industry Association Music Awards. Joy's inspiration and influence comes from good writers - hence his alias name choice. Musically however, Joy has said he has been influenced by Paul Kelly, George Harrison and timeless songs from his parent's youth. Joy is a big movie buff, which he will note in some of his material. He has referenced movies like "Midnight Cowboy" and "Infamous," and even Al Pacino's "Scent of a Woman."

The popularity of "Riptide" sent Joy into several world-tours. Vance Joy tickets sold out in his headline tours in Australia and went on to perform at popular music festivals as well. He has performed at Bonnaroo, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza festivals, to name a few. Pretty soon, his name was added to the list of notable artists that would join Taylor Swift's 1989 tour. With his name on the bill, you can imagine how this was not a cheap ticket to come by. Jump in the riptide that has been this Australian's career and get your cheap Vance Joy tickets before they get swept away!
