About Sam Hunt
Born on December 8, 1981 in Cedartown, Georgia, country music singer and songwriter Sam Hunt's primary passion throughout his early life was football. A keen player throughout high school, Hunt went on to play at the college level, serving as a quarterback at two universities - Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. A highly talented athlete, Hunt excelled during this time, even going so far as to securing a training spot with professional football team The Kansas City Chiefs. Despite sporting acclaim, Hunt found himself falling more and more in love with music, writing, singing and playing the guitar as often as possible.
Genre of his own
His style during this period can best be described as an amalgamation of different genres: everything from urban pop, R&B, and of course, given his rural southern roots, country music. Soon after college Hunt headed to Nashville, intent on becoming a star. Not long after arriving in Nashville, Hunt secured a publishing deal to pen songs, and soon after renowned country artists such as Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney began recording his tracks. But that wasn't enough for Hunt. He wanted to be a star in his own right. He released his first single - "Raised on It" - independently in 2013 and a mixed tape soon followed, called "Between the Pines." His early songs were popular, and he began to slowly build up a following. On music streaming site Spotify, for example, Hunt's songs were receiving an average of 300,000 streams a day.
Overnight Star
He hit the big time in 2014, however, after signing with the record label MCA Nashville. Not long after signing with the label, Hunt released his first commercial single "Leave the Night On." The track was a huge success, with his fanbase developing almost overnight. Cheap tickets to his shows became hard to come by as fans became desperate to see him perform. The single later hit the No. 1 spot on the country charts, and in the October of 2014 his debut album was released - "Montevallo." Further hit singles followed including "House Party" and "Take Your Time", with the album "Montevallo" later hitting the No.1 spot on the country album chart.
In more recent years, the singer has released hits like “Body Like a Back Road,” “Drinkin’ Too Much,” “Downtown’s Dead,” and more! It's clear that Sam Hunt is riding a wave of success, and he definitely won't be slowing down anytime soon.
