Growing up in Georgia, Phillip Phillips' interest in guitar really started when he was a teenager. He started performing on the local circuit before he auditioned for the eleventh season of American Idol and won a slot on the show. The obligations of the competition meant that he had to skip his own college graduation - and he almost dropped out due to pain from health problems - but the sacrifice was worth it when he swept the show. After his win, his single "Home" became a smash hit, one of the best-selling coronation songs from American Idol.
