Khruangbin History

Khruangbin originated from two friends, one teaching the other how to play bass. With Laura Lee on Bass and Mark Speer on guitar, the two toured with Yppah and Bonobo. Speer asked Donald Ray "DJ" Johnson to play drums, and Khruangbin was born. The three friends connected with their mutual obsession of Middle Eastern culture. The band's name derives from the Thai word or Khruangbin, which was decided based on Laura Lee's current Rosetta Stone Thai lesson. Bonobo featured a Khruangbin song on his Late Night Tales compilation album shortly after their tour, which gained traction for the band. The band released The Universe Smiles Upon You in 2015, which is influenced by 60's Thai rock, while their 2018 album, Con Todo El Mundo, draws from the history of Spanish and Middle Eastern music. They're globally influenced music is eye-openingly stunning, and fans will see Khruangbin at the top of the industry very soon.
