A Hollywood Rags-to-Riches Tale

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Nashville by a singer-songwriter single mom, Kesha started honing her musical talents at an early age. In 2005 she caught the attention of Dr. Luke, who had her move back to Los Angeles to focus on her music career. After being featured in Flo Rida's hit single "Right Round," she released her debut album, Animal, breaking records and selling millions of copies worldwide. Critics were split on her unsophisticated and playful persona, but fans adored her. Singles like "Tik Tok," "We R Who We R," "Blow," and "Your Love Is My Drug" were radio hits. Her talent has attracted collaborations with artists across genres, from The Flaming Lips to Zedd to Ben Folds.

She released her sophomore album in 2012, also to wild success, but the years following were full of turmoil. After voluntarily going through rehab for an eating disorder, Kesha sued Dr. Luke. The high-profile court case rallied her hundreds of thousands of fans but also put a halt to new recording. Kesha returned to performing in 2016, with another album on the pipeline that she recorded while in rehab. She appeared at the 2016 Coachella music festival to perform the song “True Colors” during Zedd’s slot, this performance was her first major public one since the Dr. Luke legal battle. That same year she toured her Kesha and the Creepies: F*** the World Tour. In 2017 she released the single “Praying” which rose high in the music charts, as the lead from her album Rainbow which was also released in 2017. The release of the album peaked at number one, her second number one album on the Billboard 200 chart.
