The Victors Of The NCAA
The golden legacy of the Jayhawks basketball program began in 1898 with coach James Naismith – the man who actually invented the sport. Naismith was followed by "Phog" Allen, who led the Jayhawks to five conference championships. Over the years, the Jayhawks have been the conference champion dozens of times over, a constant threat in the NCAA Tournament, and winner of the NCAA Championship title in 2008. Kansas Jayhawks games are some of the most dazzling in college sports – in 1957 they squared off with the North Carolina Tar Heels in one of the most memorable NCAA Championship games ever. Kansas eventually fell in triple overtime, but Jayhawk Wilt Chamberlain was lauded with the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award for his passion and skill. But some of the most spirited games are against the Jayhawks in-state rival, the Kansas State Wildcats.
