Kamaru Usman is a former freestyle wrestler turned professional mixed material artist. Usman fights for UFC in the welterweight division and is ranked well in the UFC overall rankings. In his early wrestling years, Usman was a NCAA Division I Champion and three-time NCAA All-American. Usman had Olympic dreams in 2012 but injuries preventing him from making the US wrestling team. After that he became a wrestling coach and an Ultimate Fighter.

Usman first faced Leon Edwards in the live UFC match in late 2015. He won his first fight and the next few fights over 2016 and 2017. In 2019, Usman was crowned the UFC Welterweight Champion after taking down Woodley and carry that title into the next year.
