A dynasty of Conference Queens

Women's basketball became an official sport at Iowa State University in the 1970s, but it would be two decades before it would be recognized as a future powerhouse. Under the leadership of Coach Bill Fennelly, the Cyclones experienced a profound change in direction. In 1997 they received their first berth in the NCAA Tournament, and by 1999 they were able to snag a spot in the Elite Eight. 2000 was an epic year for the Cyclones, cementing their dominance in the Big 12. They were crowned both the regular season and tournament champions in the conference. The Cyclones continue to reign in the Big 12 and pose a threat in the NCAA Tournament as a consistent competitor, hungry for the glory that lays beyond the Elite Eight.
