About Houston Dynamo
The Dynamo is Houston, Texas' resident Major League Soccer squad since 2005, joining the MLS in 2006 and playing at home in the BBVA Compass Stadium (cap. 22,000). The team astonishingly won the first two MLS Cups for which it competed, in 2006 and 2007, buoyed by the play and leadership of a talented group of players and coaching staff. Houston Dynamo History
The team competed in the MLS for the first time against the Colorado Rapids, winning 5-2. They would go on to become a dominant force that season, with an 11-8 record that earned them second place in the Western Conference and which propelled them to victory in the championship tournament that season as well as the next.
Since their very promising start in the MLS, the Dynamo have continued to compete at high level and attract top American and international talent to their squad. Teams like the Dynamo have helped to increase and further the legitimacy of American soccer in the international eye, bringing U.S. squads to the attention of foreign competitors.
The Houston Dynamo hold an intense rivalry with FC Dallas, and the two compete in the Texas Derby. The winner of the series is recognized as the best club in the state for the season, and will also take home El Capitan, a replica 18th century mountain howitzer cannon!
