Indie rockers break out of Brooklyn
Grizzly Bear comes from humble beginnings, a personal project started by Ed Droste. Along with support from drummer Christopher Bear, Ed Droste released the first Grizzly Bear album in 2004. Rolling Stone took note, writing words of praise for the dreamy Horn of Plenty. Droste and Bear started performing live and quickly realized they needed to enrich their sound. After filling out the lineup with Daniel Rossen and Chris Taylor, Grizzly Bear was ready for a true debut. Yellow House was lauded by both The New York Times and Pitchfork Media, heralding the arrival of the Brooklyn band on the national music scene. Grizzly Bear has toured with Radiohead, played at South by Southwest, and rocked out a sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House. After the release of Shields in 2012, the band spent little time in the studio, focusing instead on touring or other projects. It wasn't until 2016 that rumors of a new album began to circulate. Painted Ruins was released in late August of 2017, and fans and critics alike raved about the new record.
