The rise of an NCAA champion
The history of Florida Gators basketball goes all the way back to 1915, when the team had a winning debut season. In 1932 Florida became a charter member of the Southeastern Conference; however it wasn't until the 1980s that the team started to become a conference threat. They made several appearances in the National Invitation Tournament, and in 1994 they made their debut in the Final Four. In 2005 the Florida Gators started the season unranked, but a remarkable 17-game winning streak and an SEC Tournament Championship title made them a surprise threat. They went on to win the NCAA Championship Game, defeating the renowned UCLA Bruins. The following year they again made it all the way to the Championship Game, defending their title against the Ohio State Buckeyes to become back-to-back champions. Since then the Florida Gators have been a force to be reckoned with, both in the SEC and the post-season playoffs.
