From metal to country
When he got his first guitar as a teenager, Cody Jinks started strumming country tunes – but he quickly found himself drawn to heavier sounds instead. In 1998 he was the lead singer and guitarist for Unchecked Aggression, a thrash metal band. They released one album, The Massacre Begins, but disbanded due to internal tensions. Cody Jinks had the chance to rethink his approach to music, and in the end he came back to country. He retains the brash confidence and rule-breaking attitude of metal, coming up with a rock and roll country sound. He started his solo career in 2005, releasing his music on his own label. His 2015 album, Adobe Sessions, climbed up regional Heatseekers charts. The 2016 follow-up, I'm Not the Devil, rang in at No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart, drawing in listeners with Jinks' honkytonk tunes.
