A History of the Asheville Tourists

The Asheville Tourists have played under various names in various leagues and classifications over the past several decades. The team first started playing all the way back in 1897. This current team has been playing in the South Atlantic League for over 40 years. During that time, they have won the championship for their league three separate times, with the most recent one coming in 2014. Prior to 1976, other Asheville teams have won the championship of their respective league four separate times. The Asheville Tourists are a single-A team, with AA and AAA separating them from the major league team. Players of all ages and all skill levels play for the Asheville Tourists. Occasionally, even major league players will spend a short time with the Tourists during a rehab stint from injury.
