Rising Towards the Zenith

When Arizona State's women's basketball program kicked off in 1975, the results from that inaugural season were not promising. However, within just a few years the team had gained some traction, even becoming the 1981 NWIT runner-up. The following year the Sun Devils earned a spot in the inaugural NCAA Tournament. They fought their way to the Sweet Sixteen, a feat they repeated the next year. Over the next decade, the team had its ups and downs, but the new millennium was a new beginning. In 2001 they received their first invite to the NCAA Tournament in almost a decade. The next season the Sun Devils swooped in to take the conference tournament championship title. They started making more frequent appearances in the NCAA Tournament and would consistently push through the first round. In 2007 they earned a Sweet Sixteen spot, a feat they repeated in 2009. With their recent history of winning seasons and their streak of NCAA appearances, Arizona State is poised for greater national success.
