Lovely historic inn where I have been for special functions, but not to stay overnight. My room was comfortably appointed, clean and quiet. The stairs getting up to the third floor were challenging, as there is no elevator, but I was offered help with my luggage. Breakfast was basic continental.

I wanted to like this place, having had good experiences at bed-and-breakfast type places before, but this place lacked the things that set b&bs apart. The was zero hospitality - no one there to check us in, no one at the desk when we came down in the morning for breakfast. The breakfast was not worth eating. Single-serving cereal (Special K and Frosted Flakes) and some plain bagels in plastic wrap. There was no place to get water. No real coffee cups - just plastic. There was no staff around to ask questions or get help. It felt more like a motel with antiques than anything else.

We absolutely LOVED our stay here. We stayed for one night to attend a family wedding nearby in aurora, and we were in love with the springside. The rooms are adorable, just our style, and the entire property is gorgeous. The vintage style is so fun and comfy, and it’s very clean and well taken care of. It was a huge bonus that it’s close to the lake because I’m a runner and there was lots of beautiful scenery as I did my five mile run this morning. If I could give the inn 10 stars I would, we will never stay anywhere else when we’re visiting family in the area. Thank you springside for making our trip so special!

Two Night Stay

This seems like a great place for a function. The grounds are very nice. If you stay in a standard room, do not expect a lot. I agree with the review that said the windows are filthy. The sheets appeared to be clean, but were stained which wasn't appealing. Maybe it was a Monday, but the service was non existant and do not expect much from the "continental" breakfast. If you put a "do not disturb" sign on the door, don't be surprised if you get a knock at the door with someone offering you towels! The hosts did not introduce themselves when present. Although the man was nice, I can't say the same for the woman.

This property, after speaking to the owner the day we left, is a 150 year old building. It is very nostalgic, with creeky floors/stairs. We actually had a key to the room, not a credit card scanner to enter. The staff was amazing, bringing water/coffee up to the third floor to our room. They don’t “technically” have a bar for serving the guests, but because they had a “special event” going on at the same time, they sent their “bartender” to the bar to serve us!!!! JJ was his name, and he’s a hoot! Very good personality! We loved him! We had a “nightcap drink”, and retired to our room. The rooms aren’t BIG, and ours didn’t even have a microwave or fridge, but they did have furniture close to the timeframe of the building itself. Felt like we were staying in a place from George Washington era. That’s okay too! It was a blast from the past! We liked it.
