This is a really nice place. It's a 1920's era hotel in excellent condition so the rooms aren't large but they're definitely adequate. All sorts of dining, shops, the ocean, and a trolley line are in walking distance. The trolley stops at all sorts of attractions. The hotel staff is very pleasant, efficient, and accommodating.

The location is perfect for Embarcadero walking and FiDi nearby - that's basically the only plus. The stink is noticeable in the lobby and bad in the room. In the elevator you feel asphyxiated. I didn't mind the tiny room because they were pretty clever arranging everything. Only one outlet in the bedroom; it's an older building. The bathroom fans are loud - especially in specific acoustic spots at the sink and shower. The staff try, but I think they know what kind of place they work. My room keys stopped working at 10am, even the new key reception gave me didn't work so maybe it's a suddenly wonky electronic lock? Next time I'll try elsewhere.
