Their elevator was broken and we didn’t know. There was no sign outside saying it was broken. We got in it and got so scared. It was shaken violently and got stuck for a while in there. We chose not to stay the second day and left early.

turns out the Surfbreak's got a sister spot tucked away at 2001 South El Camino Real, right on the quieter stretch of the old mission road, just a quick hop from the pier and T-Street but with that vintage SoCal motel soul. I crashed here for three nights in October during a south swell chase, and while it's no glossy Avenida Del Mar reboot, it's got heart, history, and enough beach access to keep the stoke alive. (Pro tip: This one's the OG Trade Winds rebrand – same bones from '55, fresh surf twists.) Location Smack in the middle of San Clemente's easygoing south end, 0.5 miles from the pier's taco trucks and bonfire vibes, and a 10-minute bike to Trestles if you're packing your own rig. I-5's Exit 74 dumps you right there – no traffic wars like up in Dana Point. Walkable to Lost Winds for a post-surf stout or Guicho's for Italian subs, but it's got that "hidden gem" feel away from the Del Mar crowds. Ocean glimpses? Subtle, but the breeze hits hard. Rooms Snagged a Queen Standard on the ground floor – clean but classic motel layout: tile floors (easy rinse after sandy feet), mini-fridge , and a flatscreen with HBO (waves on mute while you crash). Bed's firm with crisp white linens, AC blasts cold, and the bathroom's got hot water on demand plus a walk-in shower big enough for two (or one with a board bag). Wi-Fi's solid at 50 Mbps

FAMILY SAFTY : “STAY AWAY” we arrive , open door get a hard MUSKY smell , we enter as a family inside and get a strong URINE smell, after 1 hr we text the virtual Front desk get a text back “ whats your name” we then get ghosted so we call and where told “ no house keeping services available, if you leave no guarantee for a refund” we left after 2hrs in this room. The floors where dirty our feet where dirty just from walking around. During the very short stay we inspected the toilet 🚽 and it woud NOT flush due to being already clogged . We cant make this up. Cant sleep , cant use restroom, cant get a refund . STAY AWAY .

In the room we had, there was flooring that had been “patched” but it was very weak and scary to walk around. As if we would fall through to the downstairs. Terrible parking. The A.c. worked but not the entire time, it struggled to keep the room cool. The plus, was checking in was super easy, the bed was incredibly comfortable and we were in a very nice quiet area.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Free parking on site. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was pretty small. And the bathroom door is just a sliding barn door style board which doesn’t offer much privacy. Overall we were satisfied and would stay there again.
