We were on the 2nd floor and the late night noise from the ‘club’ was literally all night long. I’ve stayed here many times and never knew there was a club in the building. Would have been nice to know when booking because I won’t make this mistake again. It was too much.

My door lock was broken. No one would help me, someone came up and told me not to worry about it. The front desk wouldn’t move me to another room. I felt unsafe the entire time. I ended up putting the desk and chair in front of the door. It’s unacceptable.

Very clean. Staff were nice and helpful. We had the deluxe king with futon and it was plenty of room for a family of 4. The only thing that I would have changed was having our room directly above the restaurant. People outside the door were extremely loud and you could hear the music fairly loud coming from the speakeasy under the restaurant. We just turned our sound machine up louder! The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. Would definitely stay again.

Great location, stayed here for 5 days. 5-minute walk to the subway and Empire State Building. Rooms were a very decent size, quite an old building so rooms were quite cold, but the heater in the room solved that. The housekeepers were awfully friendly, but the receptionists were quite cold. Expect $100+ extra for taxes etc at check-in. There is free tea and coffee in the mornings but we were only given 3 vouchers for our 4 mornings. The barista in the morning was so rude, on her phone voice noting with earphones in as we were standing waiting to be served, not even a hello. Rooms were clean, a bit dusty. Beds were extremely comfy and large! Expect minimal amenities in the room. No access to the TV channels. Lifts were extremely slow, expect to wait 3-5 minutes in when going up to the room. Overall, a very basic 4-star hotel. Did the job as we only spent a small amount of time in the room.

One of my favorite places I’ve stayed in New York. The area is perfect - close enough to anything without being in an obnoxious part of the city. Hotel was clean and the rooms were cozy - it isn’t overly fancy, but the building is gorgeous, the dining area is great, and the rooms are nice. I love the history of the building, and that it hasn’t been refinished to look soulless. A fire alarm went off the last night we stayed, and the staff was efficient at getting everyone cleared out and taken care of, then back into the hotel as soon as everything was cleared by FDNY. When we arrived we asked for something (I forget what now - a steamer I think), and they immediately came to the room with it, as well as offering slippers and robes, etc). On my most recent trip to NY, the hotel was booked or I would have gone back without hesitation.

I had an excellent stay at the Life Hotel. The building has great character, the rooms are clean, stylish, and surprisingly spacious for New York. The location is perfect — right in Midtown with everything within easy reach, yet still quiet inside. Staff were friendly, helpful, and made the whole experience feel effortless. A brilliant hotel and one I’ll definitely return to.

When I checked in and went to my room, it had not been cleaned by housekeeping. They moved me to another room on the second floor which was noisy throughout the night from the music played below so I experienced very little sleep throughout the stay. I asked twice to be moved. The first time I was told to ask the following morning and the second time I was told I could move to a smaller room if I wanted. Overall a very bad experience and frustrating to have a total lack of sleep during a trip for important business meetings.

I just stayed at the Life Hotel with my girls and I loved the old charm this hotel provided. The bar area was gorgeous and I had Thanksgiving dinner here. The concierge let us check in early and was very friendly when we first walked in the door. All the other staff from the restaurant, the bar, maintenance, etc. were also very welcoming and kind. The room was clean and anytime we asked for more towels or more toilet paper (4 girls in one room), they immediately fulfilled our request! The atmosphere downstairs was great at night and staying in the room was really quiet. I would definitely recommend staying here!
