We stayed at The California Building in December and had a mixed but overall decent experience.
Upon arrival, we noticed that the side bedroom door leading out to the balcony would not lock, which was a safety concern for us. The ice maker was also not working. We reported both issues the first night, and to their credit, maintenance came the following morning and fixed them promptly.
As the stay went on, we noticed additional maintenance issues. One of the bedroom windows would close but would not latch properly, which again did not feel secure. At that point, after already reporting multiple issues, we chose not to contact maintenance again. Individually these were minor, but collectively they became frustrating.
Cleanliness could have been better. The unit was tidy, but it did not feel thoroughly cleaned. The floors were dirty, there was debris underneath the futon, and the futon or sofa bed itself was broken and extremely uncomfortable. There was also residue on the nightstand, and the bathroom floor grout looked like it had not been scrubbed in quite some time. The showers were usable, but the water pressure and setup were not ideal.
We were encouraged to prepay for parking due to the garage potentially filling up, but during our December stay the garage was nearly empty, which felt unnecessary.
On the positive side, the kitchen space was very convenient, the location is excellent and highly walkable, and the front desk staff was very helpful and responsive.
