Excellent location. Terrible service. Dangerous stairs. The staff were unhelpful and rude. The stairs are hard to navigate. The stairs do have handrails but there is a wall touching the handrails - it is not possible to grab the handrails as a result. The location is very good and you can walk to most locations in Madrid.

Personnel super friendly and helpful. Located 3 minutes walking to El Sol metro. All principal attractions are at walking distance. The only issue are thin walls are thin . You can hear people coming to the lobby

Great location and helpful, friendly staff. Right in historic heart of Madrid within 20 minute walk in any direction to key sights. Veryclean room. Only down side was our room was little narrow and laid out in awkward L-shape. Also, no microwave or coffee maker or small fridge was provided in room. Those items would have made the stay perfect. Otherwise, great building and location and friendly staff. Mil gracias!

Great Location , Helpful Staff. But other than those, It wasn't a good experience. Rooms are from 1980s. Everything is old. No technology involved with this place. The bed was very uncomfortable. Wifi was weak. I stayed in a single room. So It was extra extra tiny room. Other rooms might be little larger but I don't really suggest anyone to stay in that single room if you don't have to.

Very shabby overall. Old and stained bedspread. Loud, no soundproofing, WiFi does not work in rooms. Not kept up at all. Extremely small room and shower. Staff not helpful.

At no stage did I receive any confirmation of my booking for this property, so I had to book another property for our stay. It ended up being quite expensive as the new booking was at such short notice, plus the fact that I had already paid for Hostal El Pilar. I am home now and not at all happy with the fact that the communication was non existent

Hola, este hotel no es ni remotamente lo que usted espera, ni lo que se ve en las fotos que hay en Expedía, para empezar el baño de la Hab estaba muy pequeño y el toilet suelto, no se podía hacer necesidades en el, es casi imposible bañarse en ese lugar ya que la bañera es extremadamente pequeña con una cortina de muy mala calidad, el aire en muy mal estado, el control del TV prácticamente inoperable, el control del aire roto y funcionaba cuando quería, las sábanas y la cubre cama sucia el día que llegamos tuve que pedirle a la señora que la cambiara, y para rematar existe moho producto de la humedad en algunas áreas de la Hab. Pero lo peor de todo es el ruido que hay toda la noche proveniente de otras habitaciones y la calle , es imposible dormir , estuvimos casi 9 días sin poder dormir. Yo no soy una persona exigente, pero este lugar no lo recomiendo di para nada.

Great location!

We enjoyed our stay. Alfredo was a great front desk host and gave us great directions to find our way around. We arrived early. Our room was not quite ready so they stored our luggage while we went and ate lunch. Then we were able to get in to our room early. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was also very quiet. This room was a perfect location. We could walk to Retiro Park and the Palacio Real and everywhere in between. There were many food options very nearby. The Sol metro station is just a 2 min walk- if that. FYI- if using an uber or taxi- be aware that a lot of times the street is blocked to traffic except police and deliveries. You will need to meet/leave the taxi/uber at the corner- it is not far at all though.

This property is located right in the heart of Puerta del Sol. From there you can reach all of the most popular tourist destinations and restaurants, bars, etc, by walking. The metro is also right there. Overall, great spot to launch your explorations. The property itself is fine. My issue was on the first night when we arrived. The A/C was not working in the room. We were told that there was no other room and no option for a repair (at 4PM). No solutions such as a large fan or portable A/C units. We were offered a small office fan that did very little to offset the 90F degrees in the room. We (me, my wife and 2 daughters) ended up sweating all night and not sleeping at all. I realize that things can go wrong or break down but not having a solution is not acceptable. The next day we were moved to a better room down on the main level where the A/C worked and everything was fine. Overall, if you get lucky and all works when you arrive, the stay at this location is good. We were not reimbursed for the cost of the first night. The attitude was "what do you want me to do?" It's a shame as it could have been a better stay. After the first extremely hot night, everything was fine.

The room was nothing like described and pictured. It had not been renovated as described. The building was not secured even though it was late, and the room lock and key did not feel secure. Also it did not feel safe, as the window was to the interior center and there was no access to the fire escape. Though there were no smoking signs everywhere, I could smell people smoking. Finally, I ended up finding an alternative place and not staying there because I didn't feel comfortable or entirely safe. Though I did not expect a refund for the first night, I requested a refund for the second night which I had already paid for and the request was denied.

El hostal está localizado en el segundo piso y me tomó unos minutos poder localizar el timbre para acceder a la recepción. El hostal se encuentra en buenas condiciones y la habitación fue acogedora. Localización estratégica muy cerca del Metro. Tenga en cuenta que la caja de seguridad es manejada por un tercero y cada vez que la utilices debes pagar un euro (una caja bastante arcaica), la misma no estaba asegurada contra un objeto fijo; si alguien accede a la habitación puede sencillamente llevarse la caja. No se si es algo común en hostales, pero éste utiliza llaves tradicionales para acceder a la habitación y me pidieron que la dejara en la recepción siempre antes de salir (algo que prefería no hacer). No obstante, me gustó la localización, el trato y las condiciones de este hostal y volvería a hospedarme en una futura ocasión.
