I booked this apartment because I was attending a work event nearby in Shoreditch. I knew it would be basic and wasn’t expecting luxury, but there’s a clear difference between basic accommodation and somewhere that hasn’t been properly cleaned or maintained. Several areas were not clean, particularly in the bathroom. The shower screen had heavy marks and build-up, the shower fittings had visible deposits, and the grout was discoloured. The overall finish felt tired and poorly looked after. There was also a strong smell from the pizza restaurant downstairs throughout the apartment, which made it unpleasant and suggested inadequate ventilation. To top it off, a panel in the main entrance door to the building had been smashed and patched up with tape. That wasn’t a reassuring first impression. Management responded politely when I raised these issues. They explained that they had recently taken over the building, acknowledged that improvements were needed and said they were working on them. I appreciate that, but my review reflects the accommodation as it was during my stay, not what it might become. I was there for work and had no alternative accommodation available, so I stayed despite the issues. The location was convenient, but cleanliness and proper maintenance are reasonable expectations at any price point. Unfortunately, this property fell short.
