When traveling to London, one of the first attractions you'll want to visit Buckingham Palace. Be sure to research the times for the iconic Changing the Guards ceremony because it does not occur daily. The Queen's Gallery contains one of the world's largest art collections, perfect for filling an afternoon. While in London, you can also take time to go to the Houses of Parliament along the Thames River. Check out Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral, an architectural wonder of Sir Christopher Wren. For the best view, come to the cathedral from the Millennium Bridge at the South Bank end.

Getting Around

London is served by Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW) airports. Heathrow is the primary airport and is closest to the city, and houses five main terminals. If you fly to Gatwick Airport outside of London, the Gatwick Express train can get you to central London in under an hour.

In London, you can use the London Underground, or Tube, and the Docklands light railway to navigate the city. You can also use the overground or double-decker buses to tour the city.

Hints and Tips

In addition to architecture and history, you can enjoy shopping in London at the Dover Street Market, Oxford Street and Mayfair. Try some of England's fare such as mince pie, pudding and mulled wine at Borough Market as well.
