"When you put yourself out there as a high end hotel, an established mainstay and icon of the local history one expects a bit more when staying here. As a matter of fact my wife stayed here about 18 months prior and had a great experience.
However, there was nothing truly remarkable about our stay and as a note, there were things that occurred here that didn't happen at a much lower rated place two years ago on my last visit.
4 day stay - no vacuum, empty coffee cups left on tables, bathroom toilet not cleaned among many of the quirks. No "How was your stay?" upon check out and no assistance with luggage upon check out and valet. It was almost as if it didn't matter and they couldn't be bothered.
Not to say that there were not individual successes such as the young man at Bernie's who tended to our breakfast and a nice bartender and waitress at TEN while we enjoyed a late night snack, but, this is expected.
I am not saying it was horrible. Nice bed, easy in and out. But no wow factor, no bang for the buck and certainty no long lasting impression that says "WOW - I got to stay here again!". A legacy of luxury since 1902... Your resting on your laurels."
