At the convergence of I-95 and I-20 in Eastern South Carolina, you will find the historical town of Florence. As the gateway to coastal South Carolina and the Grand Strand, this traditional Southern town has local and modern cultural entertainment to rival any larger city. Still bustling with old Southern flavor and culture, Florence is the home of Francis Marion University, which offers modern entertainment in the form of theater, concerts and symphony. The Lynches River County Park offers a lazy trip down the Revolutionary Rivers Trail, where you can revisit places that General Francis Marion made his hideouts during the war.
Florence Regional Airport (FLO) is located a few miles east of the city. Visitors can use Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority's bus service to travel through Florence, or rent a car for convenience. Within a short driving distance, visitors can find high-speed excitement at the Darlington Raceway, where you can watch NASCAR and other auto races. A short drive will provide a day trip to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand where you will find a multitude of coastal lodgings, restaurants and shops. You’ll find many chain hotels located along Interstate 20.
Florence weather is generally pleasant, ranging from daily highs in the 40s during winter to mid-80s in summer. The hottest month is July, and the coldest month is January.
