Even though an endless summer prevails, the tourist season never closes. There are around 27 types of climates in the country, ranging from tropical jungles to barren areas. Hurricane season is between June and November and, according to records, the Republic occasionally encounters hurricanes for a short period during August or September also. The Metro and Caribe Tour companies offer fully air-conditioned bus services between all the major towns and cities. Costs are around RD $300 per trip. For the adventurer there are Guaguas, Caro Publicos, and Motoconchos. Guaguas offer cheap rides in a privately owned mini-van. Caro Publicos are small taxis that frequent the main roads and collect commuters. Watch out for overloading, as it can be dangerous.
