Killington, Vermont, the popular ski destination, sits under the shadow of Mount Killington. The main attraction is the Killington Resort which offers dozens of ski trails, luxury accommodations and a restaurant. Part of the Appalachian Trail runs through Killington, where it’s clearly marked and easy to navigate trails are inviting to hikers of all levels. A final attraction is the gondola running from the edge of the city to the Pico Adventure Center on top of the mountain.
Most people visiting Killington stay in the resorts near the ski slopes. There are also a few hotels and motels in the main city. A bus system allows for free transport between the open ski lodges in the area. This bus system also travels to certain parts of the town, and to the nearby city of Rutland. White vans also act as shuttles between lodges and resorts in the winter. Taxis are always available to take you anywhere the buses do not go.
The weather in Killington is largely controlled by the mountain. If you are staying on the mountain in winter, then expect cold weather, snow and strong sun. The snow, wind and temperatures are milder in the city. Bring warm clothes, sunscreen and sunglasses if you visit in winter. Summer in Killington is pleasant and warm.
