The rooms were well-kept and clean, with comfortable beds. The communal kitchen was excellent, and the coffee machine was a lovely touch. Delicious coffee! The communal living room was also nice, although we did not have an opportunity to use it. Had we stayed longer, we definitely would have.
The staff was helpful and very kind.
Our original room was on the front of the hotel, but unfortunately, the fire alarm was beeping. They couldn't fix it in a timely manner, so they moved us to another room on the opposite side of the hotel, which was fine, but there were train tracks just outside the hotel on that side. When we were asked if that was OK, I asked the staff person how often the train came by, and we were told "not much, 2-3 times maybe...but with the soundproofing, you won't hear much anyway." Turns out, this was incorrect. The train, in one night there, must have gone past once per hour at least - and there was no more soundproofing on the lodge than there was on my own home. It did not ruin our stay, but had we booked the room for more than one night, we would have asked to move as it was definitely disruptive. I wish we had been made aware of how often the train TRULY went past. I felt like they knew what the honest answer was, but worried that if they told us, we would have asked to be placed in another room.
Other than that, our stay was great. There are shops and restaurants within walking distance, and we enjoyed our time in Canmore.
