Pick Somewhere Else

The first problem we had was getting through the door to our room. The key card seemed to work, but the door handle would not turn. It took about 20 tries and much jiggling to finally get the door open - each time we returned to our room. It also was very difficult to open from the inside. The temperature in the room was a little warm and I could not figure out how to turn on the air. Once again, it took about 20 tries randomly hitting the many buttons to get the air on. We brought our dog with us (nice perk that the hotel is pet friendly). We took him for a walk down by the lake. He went down to the water and sunk up to his belly in mud. My husband also ended up with mud caked all over his shoes. We returned to the room and put the dog in the shower. The shower is open to the toilet (ADA friendly) which would be fine if the floor wasn't slanted in the wrong direction from the drain. Water (and mud) ended up covering most of the bathroom floor. Luckily I brought my own towels and was able to clean it up fairly well. In the morning when I took a shower, everything was soaked - including the toilet - and there was a lake of water 2/3 of the way across the bathroom floor. The bed was tilted down towards the head of the bed, so it felt like I was on an inversion board. The pillow was the thickness of a napkin. Also, the pool was out of service. I have very little nice to say about this stay. It was a roof over our heads and not much comfort.

The location was right on the lake- that was pretty. We were notified 1-day prior to arrival that the pool was closed for service. There was a giant, construction style fence around the entire pool area that was very unsightly. “Sorry” was the extent of addressing the issue. Had I known, I’d have selected another spot simply to avoid the tremendous eyesore. The bottom of our door let in a tremendous amount of light. The door lock felt secure. You could tell there had been a freshening up of sorts with new materials throughout the room with the exception of smelly drapes. There was swampy lake access however it looked too difficult to navigate. This location included free parking and was roughly $100 cheaper than another spot I was interested in. It met my expectations of ‘motel’. There was a microwave and fridge in room.

Stayed for the weekend at Big Bear Frontier. The check-in process could have been smoother—was told I’d get a text when the room was ready, but it never came. After calling a few times (and getting hung up on), I finally confirmed the room was ready. The location, however, is excellent—right on the lake, next to a new bar, and walking distance to the Village. The room itself was clean and had a decent fridge, but the bed and pillows weren’t very comfortable. No housekeeping during the stay, which was fine for a short trip. Overall, I’d stay again and may try one of the cabins next time.

The accommodations were pleasant and comfortable, although the beds could be improved. Specifically, the pull-out bed in the living room was quite noisy, and it caused some discomfort. Perhaps upgrading the beds would enhance the overall experience. Aside from that, the stay was satisfactory.

The lodge room was very clean and comfortable with air conditioning, however the walls are paper thin. The people around us had dogs which we could hear barking clearly (and loudly) through the walls, and we could hear entire conversations from the next room over. Definitely needs some sound proofing, or bring earplugs. The staff was really kind though and the property is in a great area, within walking distance to the main shops.
