About Majestic Theatre - NY

Andrew Lloyd's classic musical take of Gaston Leroux's gothic novel, Phantom of the Opera is currently delighting audiences at the Majestic Theatre. This critically acclaimed show won the 1988 Tony for Best Musical and holds the honor of being recognized as the longest-running show in Broadway history with over 10,000 performances. The play is about a woman who is kidnapped by the masked phantom who lives in the cellars of the Opera. The phantom has been given a beautiful singing voice, however his horribly disfigured face makes it hard for his victim to return his love. Will the phantom find love? You'll have to find out and pick up some Majestic Theatre tickets to their very own production of the Phantom of the Opera.

The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 25th anniversary with its 10,400th performance in 2013. The show's 30th anniversary will therefore be in 2018, so get your Phantom of the Opera tickets to be there for that milestone before it gets sold out! The Majestic Theatre is one of the largest theaters in Broadway. It seats 1,645 patrons and was designed by the Chanin Brothers in 1927. It's the last of the six buildings the brothers ever constructed. They built it as a three-theatre facility that included the Royale and the John Golden theatres. The theatre was designed by the famous Herbert Krapp, a design that would later be made a New York City landmark. Krapp was inspired by a contemporary Spanish style, with ceramic bricks on the exterior, mixed with his usual Adam-style color scheme of gold and ivory on the interior. In the 1930s, the Shuberts took over ownership of the theatres.

The theatre has housed some of the most famous theatrical shows, including A Little Night Music, The Wiz, 42nd Street, 1776 and South Pacific. It has also passed numerous star studded performances throughout the years. This includes A Wonderful Night star, Cary Grant who was actually going by Archie Leach at the time. Don't worry, you won't run into any real life phantoms at the Majestic Theatre, so pick up some cheap tickets and enjoy the show.
